Crossing 39th street on my way to meet friends with some time to kill, I ran into the Duane Reade on the corner with the intention of picking up Sweet and Sara's marshmallows I so desperately craved. I barely made it 10 steps inside, though, before I spotted a full display of the vegan beauty brand 100% Pure. The following happened:
1. My heart fluttered.
2. I got so excited I started to talk to myself crazily intermediately saying "Ohhmygoshh".
3. I stood in front of the display for a good 5 minutes before deciding where to start and what products to try.
It's also possible I bounced around like a kid in a candy store because my excitement couldn't be contained. I'm not entirely sure because discovering this display made my week, maybe life.
Here's the deal: 100% Pure is the first beauty brand to formulate makeup and skincare from, you guessed it, 100% natural ingredients. And when I say natural, I mean.. fruits and vegetables natural. They are chock full of ingredients so good you can eat your lipstick and not die. (Did you know we eat something like 8 pounds of lipstick in our lifetime? Imagine ingesting 8 pounds of deadly chemicals.)
I have never seen a store carry this brand as I've only seen it sold on TV shopping mecca QVC and their website, but it makes my heart sing to know a drugstore has such a wide and visible selection of fabulously compassionate products that never sacrifice on quality. Even the packaging is beautiful!
After sampling a few lip glazes and tints, I discovered another display with their skincare products. After much deliberation (and looks from the employees) I decided to buy the Skin Brightening Moisturizer and Pink Grapefruit Lip and Cheek Tint. I am happy with this decision despite the $60 charge to my credit card. (Secretly crying inside) Here's why:
It's been over four months and I still haven't used up all the Brightening Balm. I noticed a difference on Day 1, because it does a fabulous job of moisturizing dry parched winter skin. It's consistency at first is grainy and then as you rub it between your fingers and onto your skin it smooths out to a thick blanket of moisture. Despite the directions suggesting nighttime use, I used it day and night. My pores never got clogged and I would wake up with dewy and not oily skin. Now that the temperature is consistently climbing, I only use it at night.
I don't see a noticeable difference in my skin's glow, but the moisture itself is worth repurchasing. It doesn't hurt that the bottle is a touch luxurious too!
The tint has barely been touched because I'm (irrationally) afraid of using it up. The color it gives it also dewy and natural, both on my lips and cheeks. And when I apply it to both I don't look a clown- score! It's also super moisturizing so I don't have to apply lip balm prior. I didn't realize it had honey beeswax as an ingredient when I purchased it, so it's technically only vegetarian. I didn't see why I should return it though, as I want to support a cruelty-free company. I will never run out of the tint at this rate, but I also won't repurchase because it's not 100% vegan.
Needless to say, investing a little more in quality products can be worth it in the long run. I will definitely buy the balm again come winter.
